Prof. Dr. Vidyasagar, P.S.P.V. is a well known scientist in the field of plantation crops research especially in the management of pests of palms and contributed substantially to the understanding of Red Palm Weevil pest. He has conducted and supervised research for more than three decades on plantation crops and field crops. After a short stint in 1992 as a consultant,
Dr. Vidyasagar was instrumental in bringing a technical team to work on the Management of Red Palm Weevil in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for five years between 1993 and 1998 in the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, Saudi Arabia. His innovative approach has allowed the unveiling of several new techniques and methods in the control of Red Palm Weevil. Prof. Vidyasagar is honored with “Fellow of Indian Society of Plantation Crops” for his major contributions to the understanding of plantation crops and is a member of several professional societies besides being a referee of scientific journals. He has to his credit more than 83 publications in regional and international journals besides, many technical reports on aspects of governmental regulation of GM crops.
He has also organized several national and international conferences and has participated in many conferences in his illustrious career of more than three decades. Along with his wide experience and depth of knowledge on the problem of Red Palm Weevil, he brings much needed leadership and innovation to the Red Palm Weevil Research Chair.
